Iolite is also known as Cordierite, Dichroite and/or Water Sapphire. Iolite is a magnesium aluminum silicate mineral with a hardness of 7 to 7.5. It forms in short prismatic crystals that have an orthorhombic structure. The name Iolite comes from the stone’s violet color. The most important Iolite deposits are in Brazil, Madagascar, Burma, India, and Sri Lanka.
