Mexican onyx is a banded travertine that is obtained from stalactites in caves. The translucent, white Mexican onyx is quarried in Tehuacana, Mexico.
Travertine is a sedimentary stone that’s formed when carbon-dioxide-rich water saturates the earth at the mouth of hot springs.
The stone then re-evaporates forming Calcium carbonate deposits which then recrystallize incorporating surrounding minerals and impurities.
These surrounding minerals and impurities go on to form the variations in coloring the different Travertine pieces, which is technically also a form of Limestone.
