Polychrome Jasper (also called Desert Jasper) is found in Madagascar. Geologists discovered it in 2006 while searching for the currently mined out Ocean Jasper. “Polychrome” means multicolored. “Jasper” means spotted or speckled. Polychrome Jasper is a beautifully vivid multicolored specimen could remind one of the Painted Desert. Polychrome Jasper, an opaque crystal, is usually banded or free-formed and found in red, yellow, brown, green, and blue. The Jasper gets its color when the iron oxides. It also goes by the name of Royal Savannah Jasper and Desert Jasper.
